My peace. . .

Leadership is hard. The challenges of leadership are very real. When one accepts responsibility and accountability for supporting others to achieve important goals, there is a weight that accompanies the role of leader. Furthermore, there will always be challenges and opposition, especially when one is striving to glorify God through the work they are doing. Jesus knew this. He knew what his disciples would face, the challenges, stress, persecution and opposition. He had faced it throughout his ministry. I have no doubt this is why he often sought solitude.

Knowing the burdens and stress they would carry as they sought to move forth the kingdom, Christ reminded His disciples of another way in which the Holy Spirit would support their leadership. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither be afraid." The peace He would leave was the peace of the spirit that accompanies all those who do God's work. As He concluded his teachings and began to pray for His followers, Jesus added, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

To all those who choose to lead in a way that glorifies God through their efforts, there is a promise of peace in Him. When stress mounts, challenges arise, and persecution rages, turn to Him, seek solitude, take a few deep breaths and allow the spirit of God to feel your soul with peace and inspiration. Then take action.
